Ingredients:

  • 7 oz (200 g) semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick, 4 oz) unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch square baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.

  2. Melt the chocolate and butter: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the semi-sweet chocolate and butter, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. Mix the eggs and sugar: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until the mixture is light and frothy.

  4. Combine with chocolate mixture: Gradually mix the melted chocolate into the egg mixture, stirring constantly. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

  5. Add the dry ingredients: Gently fold in the flour and salt until just combined. If desired, fold in the chopped nuts.

  6. Pour into the pan: Transfer the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.

  7. Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is still slightly gooey.

  8. Cool and serve: Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely before cutting into squares.
